Though last season, it's also worth pointing out Elon Musk hosted. Rami Malek will host October 16 to coincide with the release of the new James Bond film No Time to Die, and SNL alum Jason Sudeikis will return to 30 Rockefeller Plaza on October 23, following a successful night at the Emmy Awards with his AppleTV+ show Ted Lasso. Owen Wilson, who will guest host for the October 2 season premiere, has gained recent attention for his role in Loki on Disney+. To Debra Messing’s point, the other three hosts who were announced for the first episodes of Saturday Night Live’s 47th season do have current projects to promote.

Why Kim Kardashian? I mean, I know she is a cultural icon, but SNL has hosts, generally, who are performers who are there to promote a film, TV show, or album launch. An exasperated Grace (Debra Messing) tries to mediate between a resentful Will (Eric McCormack) and her sloppy, free-spirited boyfriend Nathan when Nathan moves in while Jack (Sean Hayes) is in a royal dither as he plans to finally meet his unseen father face-to-face. She noted that the host role on NBC traditionally goes to someone who has a project to promote. You can watch more of the interview above and then watch a preview of the finale right here.Debra Messing, who played the titular Grace Adler on Will & Grace, which wrapped a three-season revival last year, tweeted her confusion and seemingly threw a little shade at the announcement Kim Kardashian had gotten the call to host the longtime sketch comedy show. I mean, we, I would say 80% of our crew is the same crew from 20 years ago. So I think that’s going to be the thing that I’m going to miss the most, and of course the people. At no time in my life have I ever been a part of anything where I would come to work and know that I would be laughing at some point. What will Debra miss the most? “I will miss laughing every day. So I think this time I am very aware that this is a goodbye.”

I think because the first time we did eight seasons, we were young and full of ourselves and we’d done lots and it’s time to move on, and I think now we, I certainly know for me, I have a greater appreciation of how great a job this is and how great these writers are, and the words we get say every week, words that are never in stone, words that change day after day, because they’re collaborative and we’re firing on most cylinders, and that doesn’t happen very often. “In some ways, it’s harder to say goodbye this time. The finale is not just hard on the fans – McCormack, who plays Will, is taking it harder this time around. And I think that this time these four characters are being sent off in a way that is really gratifying and satisfying.” I think that there were a lot of fans who were sort of questioning the way it was wrapped up last time, with playing with time. Speaking about the final episode, she says, “What I can say is that I think that everyone’s story wraps up happily and poignantly. So I think again, it is reflecting real life, and that is meaningful to me,” says Messing, who plays Grace. It’s no longer, you don’t really see women 20 years old having babies very often. I think there’s been a big shift in our culture and women are starting to have babies much later. But it’s interesting to play Grace as an older mom-to-be, and all of the concerns that come with that, the worries that come with that. I was actually really pregnant in season six, and so I had the belly and it was all about hiding it, and now Grace actually gets to have the belly, which is a blast. So that was a surprise for me as an actress, and it’s been amazing. “Grace in season three is going through the process of becoming a mother, pregnancy, which was never in the plan when we came back for the reboot. We sat down with stars Debra Messing and Eric McCormack to reminisce about the past 11 seasons of the sitcom, with a 12-year gap.
